Abilene, TX – Mattress Murder Father Gets 14 Years.

An alleyway dispute that occurred in Abilene, TX on September 2018, led to a murder charge and conviction. The shooter was sentenced to 14 years behind bars for the murder of a man in an alley. It all started over a dispute between two neighbors where one accused the other of dumping a mattress. From the mattress dispute, an argument became heated and then it became two gun toting neighbors against a man holding a bat. The outcome was two men shooting a killing a neighbor in the alley.

The state had charged both men with murder. Defense attorneys involved in the trial tried to paint a picture of self defense. If the two men charged felt their life was in danger, they would be allowed to defend themselves. This is the point the criminal defense attorney pivoted the case.

Was it murder or was it self defense? The criminal defense attorney put it to the jury.

After a short deliberation, the jury came back finding the father guilty of murder and the son not guilty. The difference in the findings by the jury could be based on many variables. The kill shot was fired by the father. The jury focused on that key element and decided guilt for the charge of murder.

The Abilene community has been torn by the actions of these two men. Some feel they were both guilty, others feel they were only trying to defend themselves. In the end the father is convicted and the son walks free. A criminal defense attorney was able to point out issues in the case that made the jury pause and consider a different viewpoint. In the end the attorney was successful in keeping one client out of prison.
